Cinnamon Rolls

One of my favorite breakfast foods is cinnamon rolls. Luckily for me, these are super simple to make, take a few hours, and are delicious! Here are the steps:

First, put in a batch of dough. This is our family's favorite cinnamon roll dough recipe:

For 12 Rolls

1 Egg plus enough water to equal 1 1/2 cups of water
1 tsp lemon juice
4 1/2 cups of bread flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of oil
2 tsp of active dry yeast

Dump it all into the bread machine, or if you are making it by hand, mix all the ingredients together and set it aside to rise. Once the dough is thick and pliable, you are ready to make cinnamon rolls!

First, dust your surface with flour. I just do mine on the counter. Then, punch your dough into a ball and plop it on the flour.

Dust your rolling pin with flour as well, and roll out your dough. You want it to be thin, but not so thin it rips holes. Make sure it is a rectangular shape.

Once you have the shape and size you want, take a knife and spread margarine all over the dough. I always use margarine, but if you prefer, butter works just as well. Use enough margarine to cover the entire surface of your dough rectangle.

Next, grab the cinnamon! Generously coat your dough with cinnamon, but be careful about going over board. A nice dusting should work great.

Now the sugar. Because the sugar will balance the cinnamon, you need to cover your dough with sugar. Just a little bit of cinnamon should be visible between the sugar.

Once that is all on, start to roll! Using one of the long sides of the rectangle, begin to roll into a log shape.

After you have your log, grease a 9 x 13 pan. Then, pinch the edges of the dough, so that it stays rolled.

Using a knife, cut your log into about 12 pieces. Sometimes you will have more, sometimes less.

Put each piece into the pan, and set it aside to rise.

It should rise for about an hour. Twenty minutes before that hour is up, go ahead and turn on the oven to 350 and allow it to preheat.
After the hour, your cinnamon rolls will be big and fluffy, ready for baking! And if they are not, then simply let them rise a little bit longer until they reach a good size.

Toss them into the oven and let them back for around 20 minutes or until golden brown.

And there you have it! Yummy breakfast treats, super easy and simple to make.

I also coat my rolls in a sugary icing. We simple heat up about a tablespoon of margarine, dump it into a fistful of powdered sugar, then add water until it is an icing consistency. Yum!
If cinnamon rolls don't quite it the spot, other bloggers have shared their recipes at
